Introducing The Rainbow Fish

In January, the children in our Rainbow Room were introduced to the much-loved story… The Rainbow Fish 🌈

This wonderful tale follows a beautiful fish who struggles to make friends until he learns how kindness and sharing can bring others together. As children develop socially, understanding concepts like sharing and friendship can be tricky. So using stories helps bring these ideas to life in a way that feels meaningful and relatable for them.

Throughout the week, our team set up a range of adult led activities alongside child initiated play to deepen the children’s understanding of the story. These included creating fish through transient art in Forest School, making our own Rainbow Fish using playdough and counting how many shiny scales we added, matching names to fish, and retelling the story in different ways.

By revisiting the story across the week, we were able to support learning across all areas of the Early Years curriculum, while encouraging empathy, communication, creativity and a growing understanding of friendship.

It was a lovely week full of imagination, learning and thoughtful conversations! 🐟
