Free flow at the Centre

The term is in full swing!

With so much happening around the Centre, we thought it was a great time to talk a little more about what free flow looks like for your child, a term used often in early years settings.

For us, free flow means children have access to the outdoors for most of the day, whatever the weather – rain or shine. We believe preschool children need plenty of opportunities to use all their muscle groups, big and small, to support healthy physical development, confidence and wellbeing.

Giving children the freedom to choose where and how they play helps them become more deeply engaged in their learning. When children follow their own interests, they’re more focused, curious and motivated and learning happens naturally through play!

This term may have started with an arctic blast, but that certainly didn’t stop us! We even managed a woodland walk, proving that with the right clothing and layers, children stay warm, comfortable and happy. When they’re dressed appropriately, they quickly forget the cold and fully immerse themselves in the experience.

Fresh air, freedom to explore and meaningful play… that’s free flow for us! 🌿
