Arrival and Collection
Sessions begin at 9am (unless you have prearranged for your child to start at 8am). Please make every effort to be prompt so that your child is here to start the session with their friends. From September 2020 we are changing the way we enter our building. Please bring your child through the main gate, and then take the gate immediately to your left, this means children no longer pass-through reception. Children will enter the playroom around the back of the building through our outdoor play area. You are welcome to wait in this area for your child to go in. Please encourage your child to be as independent as possible and carry their own bag and lunchbox. Staff will sign your child in, please let a member of staff know who is picking your child up. Our side gate will be locked after 9am for security reasons, if you are running late you will need to enter through reception. Please ring the bell and wait for someone to attend to you. If you have any admin or payments queries, please come into reception before or after you have dropped your child off.
Sessions end at either 12pm or 3pm. For 12pm pick-ups please come to the area outside reception, 3pm pick-ups are from the top the top gate. Staff will open our top gate and you will be invited into our outdoor play area to wait for your child. Please try to arrive on time as late collection can cause both inconvenience and concern to staff. If you are going to be late please ring the centre on 01594 837552 as soon as possible. Please let our staff know if anyone other than yourself will be collecting your child. We ask that you let us know about anyone who may collect your child regularly on our registration forms. We use a safe word system if we do not know the person collecting your child.
Settling Your Child into Early Years
We aim to be flexible in our arrangement, working with parents to ensure a smooth start, your child’s Key Person will work with you to discuss the most appropriate arrangements.
What to wear
Although we use aprons, we recommend you dress your child in cloths that will not be spoilt if they get paint or other craft materials on them. Try to avoid complicated belts, braces, and dungarees as these can impede children going to the toilet independently. We do have a uniform of purple polo shirts and jumpers/hoodies, this is completely optional, but we do find that it helps the children identify that they are going to pre-school and that they are part of a group. Clothing can be ordered via www.myclothing.com. Please do not bring your child in flip flops and if bad weather necessitates the wearing of wellies, please bring some suitable indoor footwear for them to change into.
Children need to bring in one rucksack style back containing a complete set of spare cloths and nappies, wet wipes and nappy sacks if required. Please do not worry if your child is in the process of learning to use the toilet, we can support everything you are doing at home, please speak to a member of staff/ child’s Key Worker to ensure we are following the same routine as you.
The Great Outdoors
Getting outside everyday – come rain or shine- is part of our ethos at The Opportunity Centre. Please make sure your child is wearing weather appropriate clothing, i.e. warm and comfortable, with a waterproof coat and layers for colder days and a sun hat and sun cream for the summer. If possible, please can you leave a spare pare of wellies on your child’s peg at the Centre as we regularly splash in puddles whatever the season!
